The BBC Musical Nomad

Jan’s journey will start in Kazakstan at the Voice of Asia Festival, an emotive fusion of contemporary Asian popular music and ancient tradition. He will then continue his journey across Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and back through Kazakstan travelling west through vibrant Turkic/Persian influenced music to the mysterious sounds of the East and the Altai mountain range. Jan will be searching for the musicians who have inherited the traditions of Central Asia before “Russianisation,” a quest for countries who were able to preserve the deep emotional values of their music and culture.
